The story behind PeerPizza
A desk problem. A privacy itch. A personal project that stuck.
PeerPizza is free temporary rooms for chat and files. This page is not a feature list — it is why the project exists.
The problem at the desk
The reason is almost boring — and that is why it is real.
In the office, moving a file or video from phone to laptop was daily friction. The “easy” options were not really easy:
- Open WhatsApp Web on the laptop — again and again — just to pull a photo, document, or clip from the phone.
- Find a USB cable, plug in, wait for the phone to trust the computer, dig through folders, unplug.
Both worked. Neither felt good. Cables are clumsy. WhatsApp on a work screen is convenient for two minutes and uncomfortable for the next hour.
The privacy part nobody puts in marketing slides
Under the friction sat a quieter issue: visibility.
When WhatsApp sits open on a laptop in a shared office, the screen is not private. Chats, names, and notifications live in plain sight. Colleagues sitting nearby can see who you are talking to, even if they never mean to snoop. You are not doing anything wrong — you just needed a file. But your personal channel becomes office wallpaper.
Market tools that “solve” phone-to-laptop transfer often still feel like social apps: full chat history, sticky logins, and content that may live longer on someone else’s server than you intended. Many claim temporary sharing. Few make it obvious — and trustworthy — that data actually leaves.
That doubt is fair. If you cannot tell whether a file is really deleted after a day, you are not being paranoid. You are being careful.
Why build another tool?
The market is full of file-sharing products. That was never the denial. The gap was personal:
- Something quick — not another account and another app.
- Something desk-safe — a short code and a focused room, not a whole social life on a shared monitor.
- Honest temporary storage — auto cleanup you can understand, not a vague privacy slogan.
So instead of guessing whether a big platform really wipes data when it says it does, a personal project was built with simple visible rules: guest rooms, short codes, optional PIN, chat + files together, cleanup by design — about 24 hours, or sooner with Burn Room when you want a faster wipe.
From personal fix to something colleagues use
PeerPizza started as a fix for one person’s office day. Not a pitch deck. Just: I am tired of this loop.
Then something nice happened. Colleagues with the same WhatsApp-on-laptop and cable dance started using it too. That is the best kind of feedback — not a vanity metric, just someone next to you who prefers a room code over plugging in a phone again.
If it works at a busy desk, it tends to work for students, families, and small teams with the same quiet needs: move the file, say what it is, leave without a permanent cloud trail.
